Two-for-One Birthday Card Set

Hey Krafty friends! Today I’m sharing a fun and simple two-for-one birthday card set. These cards were made entirely with cardstock and cutting dies—no stamping necessary! I used a mix of old and new supplies, including a sentiment die I’ve had for a while, some fresh frame dies, and even pulled in a patterned paper I hadn’t used yet.

I’m always in need of birthday cards, so I’ve been working on building my stash—and this technique is a great way to make two cards quicker with just a little extra effort!

Making the Card Bases

First, I created my card bases using 80 lb Cougar White Cover Cardstock from CutCardStock.com. I scored and folded one base to open vertically and the other to open horizontally. Using a scoring board and bone folder gave them a crisp, professional fold.

Creating the Strip Background

Next, I made the colorful strip panel that became a base for one card and a sentiment for the other. I started by die cutting paper strips using Scrapbook.com’s Slim Strip Dies—such a handy tool for even, clean cuts.  This die set comes with various sizes of strips!

The color cardstock I used:

  • Robin’s Egg, Easter Grass, and Candy Hearts from Bazzill’s Marble Cardstock collection from CutCardStock.com.

  • A floral patterned paper from the Chalkboard 6x6 paper pad by We R Memory Keepers, also from CutCardStock.com.

I adhered the strips diagonally onto a Scrapbook.com double-sided adhesive roll—this step made it super easy to keep all the strips perfectly in place without messy glue!

Once I had enough coverage for an A2-sized panel, I trimmed the edges to size.

Die Cutting the Sentiment – Twice the Value!

Here’s where the two-for-one part comes in. I used Lawn Fawn’s Giant Happy Birthday Die to cut out the sentiment from the striped panel. This gave me:

  1. A full Happy Birthday die-cut piece to use on one card

  2. A negative panel (with the sentiment cut out) for the second card

This die is perfect for quick cards—it takes up a good amount of space and makes a bold statement on an A2 card.

Card One: Striped Background with Cut-Out Sentiment

To give the negative striped panel a cleaner shape, I used Pinkfresh Studio’s Blanket Stitched Octagon Die to cut it out. I then glued it directly onto one of my white card bases. That was it—clean, colorful, and super quick!

Card Two: Layered Sentiment on Chalkboard Background

For the sentiment I had cut out earlier, I wanted to give it some dimension. So I die cut the same “Happy Birthday” three more times from plain white cardstock and glued all the layers together behind the striped one.

Then I reached for that same Chalkboard patterned paper pack and chose the black chalkboard design—it added the perfect contrast. Using Pinkfresh Studio’s Notched Corner Frame Die, I cut a background panel from the black chalkboard cardstock.

I adhered the notched panel onto the card base, then glued down my layered striped sentiment on top. To finish it off, I added a few pearls in coordinating colors from my stash—just the right amount of bling!

Final Thoughts

I really love how these cards turned out. They were easy to put together but look so polished—and those new frame dies from Pinkfresh Studio are definitely going into heavy rotation!

I hope this gives you some inspiration to try this technique for yourself—especially if you have cardstock scraps lying around. Let me know if you give it a go, or if you have a favorite “two-for-one” card technique of your own!

Thanks for reading, and as always—happy crafting!
