Hello Summer Banner – A Fun and Festive DIY Project
Hey Krafty friends! Today I’m excited to share a bright and festive DIY project with you—a Hello Summer banner that’s perfect for welcoming sunny days! 🌞 This banner coordinates beautifully with the Hello Summer Z-Fold Card I shared in my last blog post, so if you’re planning a party or decorating for summer, they make the perfect pair.
This DIY summer banner is colorful, cheerful, and super fun to make. You can hang it indoors, outdoors, at a summer party, or even use it as a photo booth backdrop. In this post, I’ll walk you through how to assemble it step-by-step using my SVG cut file and some of my favorite cardstock colors from CutCardStock.com.
What You’ll Need:
Hello Summer banner SVG File – available in my Etsy shop
Electronic Cutting Machine – like a Cricut, Silhouette or Siser machine
Cardstock (from CutCardStock.com):
Pop Tone 65 lb Black Licorice – for the letters
Cougar White 80 lb – for the base of the beach ball
Basis 80 lb Aqua – for the beach ball and flip flop
Pop Tone 65 lb Orange Fizz – for flip flop and sun layers
Pop Tone 65 lb Tangy Orange – for beach ball and sun
Pop Tone 65 lb Lemon Drop – for beach ball and sun
Foam squares or foam tape – for added dimension
Baker’s Twine(I used yellow and white) – for stringing your banner
Let’s Make the Banner!
Step 1: Cut Out Your Pieces
Download the SVG file and upload it into your cutting machine software. Then cut out all the pieces using the cardstock colors listed above—or swap in your own summer color palette!
Step 2: Assemble the Beach Balls
Glue the colored segments onto the white base using liquid glue. You can also use foam tape to give them dimension if you'd like the pieces to pop!
Step 3: Assemble the Flip Flops
Attach the orange flip flop piece on top of the aqua base using foam squares. Then, glue on the straps to complete each flip flop.
Step 4: Assemble the Suns
First, add foam tape to the smaller Orange Fizz sunburst and adhere it to the larger Tangy Orange layer. Next, adhere the Lemon Drop circle layer on top using more foam tape for depth.
Step 5: Add the Letters
I used liquid glue to adhere each Black Licorice letter to the center of the sun shapes. You could use foam squares on the letters as well if you wanted even more dimension! Make sure the holes are at the top of each sun and the letters are centered between the holes so that your banner hangs and reads correctly.
Step 6: String It All Together
Use Baker’s Twine to assemble the two parts of your banner:
"SUMMER" Section:
Start with a flip flop, then string on the letters in reverse order (R-E-M-M-U-S) so they display correctly when hung."HELLO" Section:
Begin with a beach ball, then string on the letters (O-L-L-E-H), and end with another beach ball.
Leave extra twine at both ends so you can hang your banner easily. If you'd rather make one long banner, you can combine “Hello” and “Summer” on one continuous piece of twine.
All Done!
This Hello Summer banner is vibrant, cheerful, and perfect for any pool party or summer celebration. I love how it matches the Z-fold card—it really helps tie your party decor together.
