DIY Musical Greeting Card – Handmade Card for Music Lovers
Hi krafty friends! 🎶 Today I’m excited to share a fun DIY musical greeting card that’s perfect for music lovers. This card is gender-neutral and works beautifully for birthdays, thank you notes, or “just because” cards. If you’ve been looking for a music-themed handmade card idea, this project is simple, elegant, and easy to customize.
Supplies for Music-Themed Card
Dies & Stamps (Spellbinders + Bibi Cameron)
Mini Musical Instruments die set
Musical Notes and Stave Pop-Up die set
Family Musical Mix Greetings stamp set
Cardstock (from CutCardStock.com)
Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110 lb (card base)
Cougar White 80 lb
Pop-Tone Black Licorice 65 lb
Stardream Metallic Gold 105 lb
Other Tools & Supplies
Distress Oxide Ink – Hickory Smoke
Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush Pen
Spellbinders Platinum 6 die-cutting machine
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Create the Card Base
Start by cutting an 8.5" x 11" sheet of Neenah Solar White 110 lb in half. Score each half at 4.25" to create two A2 card bases.
Step 2: Die-Cut the Musical Elements 🎵
Using your Spellbinders dies, and die cutting machine cut the following:
Musical notes: Black Licorice cardstock
Piano keys: Black Licorice (keys) + Cougar White (backing)
Instruments: Base pieces in Stardream Metallics Gold, accents in Antique Gold
Assemble the instruments and piano with liquid glue, then set aside.
*I also laid out the pieces on the card base to get an idea of how I wanted to put together this card. And this is when I realized the background needed more. So I then decided to ink blend it.
Step 3: Ink Blend the Background
To add subtle depth, lightly blend Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink around the front edges of the card base. This creates a soft shadow that helps the die-cut instruments pop.
Step 4: Add a Stamped Sentiment
Stamp the greeting “This note is for you” from the Family Musical Mix Greetings stamp set in the top right corner with VersaFine Onyx Black ink. For extra dimension, add a touch more ink-blending around the sentiment and a hint of sparkle with the Wink of Stella brush.
Step 5: Assemble the Card
Arrange the instruments, piano, and music notes across the card front. Attach them with liquid glue. You could use some foam tape on a few pieces for added dimension. But can you believe it…I didn’t use any foam squares or tape on this card…lol!
Step 6: Decorate the Inside ✨
I kept the inside blank so I can personalize it later.
Pro Tip: I used a left over scrap piece that I cut from the piano keys on the front of the card to the inside of the card and an extra music note I had cut out and added it to the inside of the card! It’s a great way to use any extra pieces lying around.
Why You’ll Love This DIY Musical Card
🎶 Perfect for music lovers – Ideal for birthdays, thank you cards, or just a thoughtful note. Especially using the coordinating stamp set!
✂️ Customizable – Change the colors of the instruments and notes to fit any theme.
🎼 Gender-neutral – A versatile handmade card idea that works for anyone.
🌟 Simple but detailed – The die-cut instruments are the star of the design!
Final Thoughts
I loved making this music-themed handmade card with the Spellbinders + Bibi Cameron dies and stamps. The instruments and notes add so much personality, and the metallic cardstock gives the finished card a professional, polished look.
If you’re looking for a fun die-cut card idea for a music lover, this one is a must-try. Save your extra die cuts for future projects — I already have ideas for more DIY musical cards with these sets! So, I will be bringing them to my crafting crop in November.
