DIY “Happy Halloween” 2D Banner

Hey crafty friends! Today I’m sharing a fun (and just a little spooky) project — a Happy Halloween banner you can make using an SVG from A Krafting Alley! This banner is the perfect touch for your fall or Halloween home décor, and it’s super easy to put together with your electronic cutting machine and some cardstock from CutCardStock.com.

Supplies Used

Let’s Make the Banner!

Once I had all my cardstock chosen, I started by cutting out each piece of the design using my Silhouette Cameo 5. After all the pieces were cut, I grouped them by section — ghosts, haunted houses, and pennants — so assembling would be easy.

Step 1: Assemble the Haunted Houses

I started with the haunted houses. I added strips of foam tape to the back of the black top layer and then attached it to the yellow bottom layer. This gave the house a little dimension — perfect for that spooky layered look!

Step 2: Assemble the Ghosts

Next, I grabbed the ghost pieces. I used foam squares on the back of the white ghost layer and attached it to the black back layer. The shadow effect gives the ghosts a fun pop!

Step 3: Assemble the Pennants and Letters

Then I moved on to the banner pennants. I added foam tape to the back of the black web pennant layer and adhered it to the purple background piece. Once the pennants were assembled, I glued the Happy Halloween letters on top using liquid glue.

Step 4: String It All Together

To assemble the banner, I used black and white twine.

  • For the “Happy” banner: I started by threading a ghost, then the letters (spelling HAPPY backward), and finished with another ghost at the end.

For the “Halloween” banner: I did the same — starting with a haunted house, then threading the letters backward, and finishing with another haunted house.

💡 Pro Tip: When threading banners, start from the last letter and spell backward — that way, you can keep your twine attached to the roll and cut it once you’re done. No need to guess how much you’ll need!

Ready to Hang!

And that’s it — a cute yet spooky “Happy Halloween” banner that’s perfect for your home décor, classroom, or Halloween party! I love how the layers of cardstock add dimension and how the ghosts and haunted houses bring it to life.
